Emma Butchard-Nagata
Growing up in the heart of elite equestrian sport in Wellington, FL, with two equestrian parents, Emma Butchard was all but predestined for a career in the industry.
Emma began riding as early as age four and started her competitive career under the tutelage of Gary Duffy and Erika Belden—the first in a long line of respected professionals with which she has worked. As a junior rider, she showed in the junior hunters and equitation divisions with Jimmy Toon and Chris Ewanouski before moving upward and onward to the jumper ring with Brian Walker. Rona Garm gave Emma the ride on all five of her horses for a few years, which prepared her to move up up to the Grand Prix and FEI levels with Ellen Raidt.
With top mount Brasil, Emma took her riding to the next level. In 2016, the pair qualified for and competed at the U-25 Final at the National Horse Show as well as the Open Jumper division at the historic Washington International Horse Show. The year 2017 produced many more top performances in what was surely a breakout year: Emma and Brasil showed in the Hollow Creek Farm U-25 Grand Prix series and contested their first CSI3* WEF Challenge Cup and 1.50m Classic at the Winter Equestrian Festival before placing in CSI4* competition at both the Devon Horse Show and the Hampton Classic.
Emma and Andre spent two and a half years together working in Belgium and The Netherlands and created Nagata Sporthorses.
